Day Surgery Day Surgery

At the Day Surgery Centre, patients can obtain medical care and return home the same day. Registration, preparation for surgery, recovery and discharge are all carried out at the same place, reducing the need for inpatient hospitalisation and delivering associated cost savings. Our Centre supports advanced surgical techniques such as keyhole incisions and bladeless cataract surgery. Patients have access to experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other staff, who deliver personalised and professional care for post-operative recovery.

With our operating teams trained in a range of specific sub specialisations, the entirety of our surgical programme is brought under one roof, facilitating a smooth transition from diagnosis to treatment.

Patient care and safety is a key area of focus at the Day Surgery Centre. To minimise the risk of infection, we have installed HEPA-air filtration systems to monitor air quality during procedures. We also regularly conduct tests for the bacterial count, particle count and air exchange rates to deliver a safe environment for our patients.

What to Expect

On Admission

  • Our receptionist will conduct admission and routine check
  • After registration, you will be asked to change into a comfortable patient gown
  • Lockers are available in the changing room for you to store your personal belongings in
  • Your nurse will answer any questions you may have while preparing you for your surgery

Post-Surgery

Immediately after your surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area where our professionally trained staff of nurses will monitor your progress. Recovery time varies according to each individual and the nature of the surgery.

We strongly recommend that you make arrangements for an adult, such as a family member or friend, to drive or accompany you in a taxi home after surgery. We also advise you to have an adult stay with you during the first 24 hours after surgery to assist you with your normal, daily activities.

Recovery at Home

Before you are discharged, your doctor or a nurse will give you specific post-operative instructions to aid your quick recovery.

Surgery for Young Children

At Mount Elizabeth, we take extra care so everyone has a positive experience at our hospitals, especially with our youngest patients. As young children may be anxious about their surgery, we allow and encourage you or your partner to stay with your child for as much of the process as possible.

Once your child has been admitted for surgery, you will have to wait in the reception area. However, you can rejoin your child in the recovery bay after surgery, and stay with them until they are discharged.
